Elizabeth And Mike

I was asked by a friend and another wedding photographer Justin to help shoot a wedding for a very close friend of his on Nov 17, 2007 and I agreed to help take some of the heat off him and make it a little easier to make this event special for his close friend. I got started around noon and caught up with Justin over at Elizabeths house to meet everyone. The wedding was to take place a 3:00pm and we need to get the wedding party together for portraits on the beach. The trolly showed up around 1:00pm and we made our way to the beach. I always like to have a good hour or two to take photos of the bride and groom to get as many diffrent settings and set up’s so there would be a lot of photos for them to look back on but this shoot would only give us a 15 to 20 minute max to shoot, so we did what we could and I think Justin and I made the best with the time we had. Elizabeth noticed that time was running short so she ran as fast as she could by the wedding party and then by me and I was able to get the first photo of her running in her wedding dress which kind of looked like the classic “Run Away Bride” type photo. Justin also told me before I did the wedding that both the bride and groom were very easy to shoot as far as great smiles and up for anything to make the photo, he was right as I think every photo that I took both of them had very natural smiles all the time. Here are a couple of shots from the shoot on the beach..

Babcock Mills State Park in WV

I have wanted to make it to this magical place in the Fall for many years. This is one of the most photographed places in the fall on the east coast and I wanted to try my hand at some shots. Babcock Mills which is located east of Beckley, WV really comes to life in the Fall but this year with the lack of rain in the southeast and other places made the falls small and less dramatic then in recent years. Still a nice place to stop at in the Fall or Winter after a fresh snow. The shot will be part of my landscape section of the new site and the pictures will be available in large prints for purchase.

The Robichaud Family

The Robichaud family just live a few houses down from me. We talk about a family portrait of them and got together late evening at the most southern part of Sandbridge, Virginia on Oct 7, 2007. I wanted to shoot from this location because I dont have to worry about to many people on the beach and the fact they might get in front of the camera. We had a chance of rain and right before they got there it rained pretty hard and stopped as they pulled up to the location. They had been running a tad late and the first shot was on top a sandy/grassy hill which we found out had thorns in it..We still got everyone in position and the warm sun lite the faces of the family..We took some others shots on the beach as we ran out of daylight fast..A very good looking family and very fun to shoot with..Thanks Guys

Virginia Beach Town Center Photography

If there is something that I enjoy more then portrait and wedding photography it would be my love for storm chasing and lightning photography. I can still remember the first lightning bolt on film in 1995 and from there I shot off like a rocket to shoot photos anytime lightning was around. My love for weather started when I was very young and the camera was the missing part of the puzzle that tied stormchasing in my life. I do a lot of freelance work for CNN and The Weather Channel as well as others with severe weather and when you get time you can check my other site out for video and photos of Hampton Roads worst weather at www.valightning.com . One of my goals at the first of the year was to get some good lightning in front of the Virginia Beach Town Center and on August 21, 2007 I got a lightning storm that produced some of the very best lightning that I have seen since I started in 1995. I also shot video in HD with a Sony FX1 and the video is just jaw dropping. Here are a few of the photos I shot that night…

Beth And Matt

Fall was in the air and it was time for my next wedding which took places in Raleigh, NC on September 15, 2007. I meant Matt a few years ago on the Plains of the Midwest during storm chasing season of 2005. Dan Robinson his bother who I was chasing storms with introduced Matt and I and Matt also has a great love for photography. Some of Matt’s city skyline shot are some of the most amazing photos you will ever see. I drove down the night before the wedding to make it to look around at the church and see how the lighting would be as well as different angle to shoot from in the church. I stayed at a hotel in the city and had to wake up early to go with the bride and brides maids to take photos of them getting the hair and makeup done which was a lot of fun and I was able to get some great shots of the mass confusion that was going on before the wedding. The wedding went well and Beth and Matt gave me the time after the reception was over to go out and take some portraits in the city and surrounding areas. I like to try diffrent things and diffrent set up’s in my wedding portraits because I dont want the bride and groom to have the same old same old wedding photo that some shoot. Below are some of the shots we took around the city and Matt being a photo guy himself made it even easier to find places as well as setting up shots of both of them without me saying turn here look here smile here…I wish they were all as smooth as this one was…Thanks Beth and Matt we all had a great time…
