Summer Time Thunderstorms

These storms rolled in on June 18, 2008 and lasted into the morning of the 19th. I need to stop using this spot so much because I like to change my foreground as much as I can but most of the photogenic storms have rolled over the Chesapeake Bay leaving me only a couple of options and this one is the closest to the couple of setup spots I have. I also had time to roll my HD camera on this one so the Sony FX1 did a fine job catching some High Def lightning. I have a little time before my next wedding and this leaves me some down time to fix some stuff around the house and maybe a little time to shoot some new photos of my daughter Madison so look for those as well. PS, yes that is someone fishing in the photo with a metal pole in the air…

Laura and Daniel’s Wedding Day

Laura and Daniel I had a great time and it was a privilege to be a part of your special day. I made it to Laura’s house to partake in the normal mass confusion that a bride encounters hours before her ceremony and I had a fun time taking it all in. Laura your sisters were a trip and very funny and I thank them for taking the time to help when they did. The wedding ceremony took place in Portsmouth City Park at 2:00pm with a small gathering of friends and family. I have to say when you think you have seen it all something taps you on the back and surprises you and cutting the wedding cake with a firemen’s axe was the first for me, Daniel is a firefighter so how else would the cake have been cut. I think with the smoke filled skies which were soon cleared by an upcoming thunderstorm and a seemingly large amount of Canadian Geese things worked out well. I wish both of you as many happy years as Laura’s grandparents have shared and I am sure both of you will. I also would like to thanks Jesse Bass for helping with the wedding photography.

Hometown Lightning

Usually by this time of year I have at least two to three sets of decent lightning photos, but this year has been rather slow and with me traveling I have missed a couple of local storms which still have not been up to par with what we had this time last year.  As I said in the last post I was born and raised in western Ohio and lived many of my teen age years in a small town 15 miles northwest of Dayton, Ohio. Most wedding photographers check the weather to see if rain is forecasted during an upcoming shoot and I do as well but I look for the possibility of storms during the night time hours as I did when I was up here for the Ohio wedding. The storm were less then good but I managed to get one or two meager shots facing the drive end theater in Clayton, Ohio.

Ohio Country Wedding

I am trying to think of words to describe Traci and Chris’s wedding and the only thing I can come up with is laid back, and very fun to shoot. I was born and raised in the area where this wedding took place and sometimes I miss the country side, the clean air, drive end movie theaters, and the landscape of wheat and corn fields that surround the areas brings me back to when I was young and worry free. Traci is my sister and to see her happy and with a smile that I remember when she was young made this wedding one I won’t forget for sometime. Her new husband Chris reminds me of a WWF wrestler for some reason and it might be because he is one big dude and his ring size was 14 which reminded me of a chain link in a fence. The wedding took place in a small hall in the small town of Laural, Ohio. The ceremony was short and I searched for spots to take some portraits of Traci and Chris and  found a small garden in someone’s back yard so I knocked on the door and the gentlemen was nice enough to let us shoot some wedding portraits on his property. I also found a wheat field that had a nice background with the red barn and the country setting which is all to familiar in Ohio so I took Traci out for some bride in the country side shots. This was a good test and something for me to remember because wedding photographers that travel have to come up with settings on the spot in areas that have not been ventured before as this was one and pretty limited. Traci and Chris I wish you the best and many years of happiness thanks for letting me share your day.

Weather And Weddings

It has been some time since my last post because of a number of things going on the last two weeks or so both personal and business related. The first and most time consuming has been the latest in severe weather in the Midwest and other places. I kind of play a moderator to check and critique a large number of weather video’s that come in to BNVN which you might see on such stations like TWC,ABC,CBS,GMA,CNN, to see if it is news worthy along with Doug Kiesling (Who owns the company BNVN) and Dan Robinson. So to say the least it has been a busy last two weeks. I want to post some highlights of this weeks wild weather and Dan Robinson has the middle name “Luck”, you have to take a look at his tower lightning and other weather photos from this week and you can check that out at the link here. The other impressive video from Doug Kiesling is located on the link here. There is one word of profanity with this video but to tell you the truth I think I might have did the samething if I was in front of what he was in front of. It has been a little slow weather wise here locally for me but I did manage to get out late last night to shoot a little lightning over the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel and I have inclued a photo from the lightning last night. I have a busy June with weddings in Dayton, Ohio and another here locally so look for new post with new photos from both of these weddings as I look forward to jumping back into getting some new and exciting photos.
