Happy New Year’s

I can’t believe that 2009 is upon us and Christmas has come and gone. I have had a great time and met so many really cool couples and families who I have had the pleasure of shooting photography of their wedding or portraits of them and family. The really neat part is even as the business aspect of the relationship has passed I still keep in contact and even hang with or join for dinner with many of the couples I have worked with, and this is the real cool thing about this job. My business has turned one year old last month and it has done well for the first year. With a lack of time due to a real forty hour a week job which I might also add sends me out of town every other week, keeping up with the new trends, website, and everything else that is in front of me has been a challenge. I have set a couple of goals that I would like to reach in the next 60 days which should help with keeping a steady flow of clients coming in. You also might call me a late bloomer but I have also found out how streamline and time saving Adobes Lightroom has become for me in late. You should see major changes happening to the site later on as a new name and face is added to my business.

A couple of personal things that have happen around my life I would like to share with those who have kept up to date with the blog and for those who don’t. I do not like the dentist and have always have had a funny thing about anything done with my teeth and even having nightmares of loosing my teeth. So when Madison ( my daughter who is six years old ) came to me when I was watching a TV show and said Daddy check this out, and move her front bottom tooth in front of me I was freaked out. I was not ready for that and thought to myself is this to early for this sort of thing to happen at six years of age. After looking it up on the web, this sort of thing  was right on time with the age she has become. I want to try to get as many shots of her before she becomes a checker board of teeth. As a father and a photographer I want to document this stage of her life as much as I can. Madison is very excited about what she call getting big people’s teeth and a visit from the tooth fairy.

I am a Nikon user and always have been. I checked out a podcast about a week ago and one of the subjects was about the Canon cameras that will do video in 1080I. For those who have not dug deep into my other interest and hobbies I chase storms here and in the Great Plains of the Midwest. I myself would never need this feature in a camera for a couple of reasons. The first being I own a Sony FX1 which takes care of the HD video side of what I like to do. The FX1 is a CCD sensor and not CMOS sensor with what is called a rolling shutter. To the wedding photographer that wants to incorporate this type of thing into his business the camera might work for you and even know I have heard stories of the sensor over heating I still think it is a cool feature. But for a storm chaser this camera will have problems with lightning at night and even during the day. Dan Robinson ( who I chase storms with and is a good friend ) has a great write up and even test videos and photos that put the Canon 5D MkII up next to the Sony FX1. Here is the link to the test. The write up and test truly shows the problem the CMOS sensors with rolling shutters have with lightning.

I hope everyone has had a great holiday with family and friends and also have a healthy and productive 2009.
