Family and Photography

This week I had some business in Pittsburgh, Pa to do and made the short trip over to my hometown of Dayton, Ohio to visit with family and my father who is very sick. I am trying to make it up to see him as much as I can and when I can. My dad and uncle are both into photography and we were all able to hang out and shoot some photos in my uncles studio. Besides having a good time I learn a lot about set up and using lighting and hope someday to have my own studio. I have always been a natural light kind of guy and always will be but so many situations require the use of lighting when it’s needed and the new and improve gear that has come out in late gives me the opportunity to shoot high speed sync and allowing to use settings that were once not possible. I am very proud of my father and without his direction and advice I would not be where I am today. I will be ordering some new gear ( might include some new lights ) and dusting off equipment this week as warm weather is just a short hop ahead of us and I have a list of e-sessions that need to be taken. Here are a couple of photos from this week of us messing around. Thanks Bob for letting us hang out with you and you can bet the next time I am in Dayton I will be heading to the studio again.

William,
When you think about it, lighting is almost everything in photography. It is cool you had an opportunity to get into your uncle’s studio. It looks like a nice setup for sure. Your shots looked good with even lighting. I am going to guess it was a beauty dish you used. The catchlight is rather small compared to the big boxes in the setup photo. If I could have my grandmother in my studio for two hours, I would give up quite a bit. I miss her a ton, and the fact you were able to get some fantastic photos of your ill father are priceless. Keep pushing it.

Thanks David,
I have so much to learn about lighting and I made the first step when I was at the small studio setup my uncle has. I wish I could make it down to Fl for you’re coaching session, maybe someday. You are also right about the beauty dish which was a pretty neat gadget. Thanks for taking the time to look around David. Take care.
