Hurricane Irene Virginia Beach, Virginia

We were lucky in the Hampton Roads area, hurricane Irene could have been far worse then it was. After my chase with the storm hurricane Isabel was much more destructive to our area and a large swath of the East Coast. Most of the time I like to be at land fall during a hurricane but since the eyewalls path was ploted over the area I live in, I made the choice to stay local and look over my family and property. I have posted a video that shows what I saw in my travels in Virginia Beach and Sandbridge area that took a big hit from a waterspout that came ashore and damged about five to six houses which is shown at the end of the video. It also has an interview with the man that lost his house from the damaging tornado/waterspout. I can tell you I will be cleaning sand out of my ears for a week or longer and if you stayed inside,, here is some footage of what you missed.

Yesterdays outbreak was historical and one for the records. I got a nasty message from someone that said storm chasers are sick. This is funny because storm chasers save lives by confirming ground truth of severe weather and tornadoes and although I have a love for this type of weather all of us (storm chasers) don’t wish and don’t want death and destruction. Chasing these type of storms are far more risky then the storms on the Plains. Virginia and North Carolina is nothing less then a forest of pine trees with no visibility. Jesse and I did a pretty good job with lack of site, storms moving at 55-65mph and using an Iphone 4 and a map. I have to thank Dan Robinson and Doug K for keeping us on track and confirming our target spots for each tornado we caught. I will say this, I have been pretty close to some crazy weather stuff but the Raleigh, NC rain wrapped tornado was very touch and go and had both Jesse and I on edge at the location we were at. No more then 400 yards from where we were had cars flipped and heavy damage to buildings.

I was asked to cover as a second shooter for a wedding on a Saturday a few weeks ago for a couple of hours till the second photographer showed up. I had to cancel another shoot I had and made it out the door to cover the girls getting ready. Some of the brides maids I have worked with before so it made it nice to see familiar faces. The girls got ready at The Ocean Beach Club Resort Hotel in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Rosalyn looked beautiful as well as her brides maids. Tammy And Lighthouse Stables

I had the pleasure of hanging out with Tammy and always have a great time with her during a photography session. She wanted to build off her portfolio and she was lacking something southern/cowgirl. It took some time to find a rustic horse farm where we could use a horse for our shoot, but I found one from an old friend I have known that use to work with me but since retired. Earlene runs a stable around Holland/Franklin Virginia and was nice enough to accommodate our needs. Thanks Earlene and here are a couple of the shots from the session.

Nags Head, NC Surfing

I have had a great weekend in Nags Head, NC and today we took the beach on but we were not able to get in the water due to the mass collection of jellyfish that were hanging out along the shore line. So I sat under a beach umbrella and watched the surfers catch some waves. I wish when I was younger I would have taken surfing up but living in Ohio kept that possibility to zero. Here are a couple of shots from today.

Heather Jeanette Miley

I had the pleasure of shooting portraits again of Heather Jeanette Miley for her EPK (Electronic Press Kit). Instead of a studio environment we took the tour of Norfolk Botanical Gardens and some sections of Ocean View for the sunset shots. Lauren Brune did a fantastic job on the makeup as usual and Kelly Ashton did a beautiful job on the hair and both I highly recommend for any of these subjects you might need. Thanks Heather for making it so easy with the camera and for my second shooter for putting up with my BS..
