I can tell you I have looked forward to taking these portraits for a long time so when Jim Ballard said we need some portraits of the family I was happy to take them and with fall foliage in full color at the NBG and four beautiful red heads ( and some guy with grey hair ) it made a powerful yet colorful statement. I have known Jim since we were ten and I can write a large book with many chapters of fun times as well as the trouble both of us got into. Although a lot of time has past since then I find myself rolling back to some of those times as I write this entry. Kathi,Laura,Megan,Ashlie and Jim here are a couple of the shots I liked so enjoy.

Even cloudy and chilly weather did not stop Christine from letting the belly hang out and she was a champ about it. With a couple more weeks till baby Calleigh comes into the world both are very excited and we had a great time together on Sunday at the Norfolk Botanical Gardens. Hey Christine the props were great and worked well thanks so much and keep me informed when the miracle happens. Here are a couple of my favorite belly shots.

Madison And The New Sigma 50 mm DG HSM 1.4

I will start with Madison who was sporting her new outfit for a Friday night halloween/birthday party with a friend from school. I was trying to remember if I did stuff like that when I was young but don’t seem to recall myself out on the town at five. It’s funny how in the last two years she has grown up so much. I can tell you one thing and that is she is going to be tall and I think swimming will be the sport she excels in. I posted a photo below of Madison in her dress.

A new tool in the camera bag and one I think I will get a lot of uses out of for portraits and a good low light lens. I received the Sigma 50 mm DG HSM 1.4 lens this past Saturday about two hour before a shoot. I wanted to get the lens earlier but the camera store I ordered it from dropped the ball and had to send it out next day on Saturday. I have owned a 50 mm 1.8 but I found out very fast how shallow the DOF can be at 1.4 and I mean very shallow. I remember opening up the box and pulling the lens out to see 77 mm of glass on a 50 mm lens and I was like WOW. I also like the weight and the solid feel of the lens. The other thing I noticed was how quiet and fast the auto focus was on the lens and a couple of times I had to hit the camera button to make sure it was focusing. I will be testing the lens more and posting photos but so far it is a very nice lens.

Marsha and Tony one of the first things I walked away with after being with you on your special day was how loved you both are by your family and friends. I really enjoyed the stories told by both fathers and both of your close friends who made a humorous and yet very heart felt speech. I wish you both many happy years together and here are a couple shots that I liked.

Jes, Rob & Baby Ellie

This was one family shoot I had been looking forward to for some time. I have known Jes and Rob for a number of years but have not got together with them in a long time. So with the new arrival of Ellie which I might add she is a little ham and the chance to hang with them it was all play and,,well,,no work. The original plan was to do a beach session but with higher then normal winds and blowing sand it was not a place for such a young baby. So we picked the next cool spot off the top of my head and made the choice to take the tour of Norfolk Botanical Gardens and I am glad we did. Jes and Rob, you both look great and I am very happy for your new edition in your life.

The Landscape Photographer In Me

I have always enjoyed landscape photography and I think it is an important thing to take advantage of and also incorporate into my wedding photography. There is nothing better then a nice background and a beautiful bride. When I travel most of my time is spent in large cities where nature is somewhat nil. This week most of my travels were in east central Pennsylvania. As I traveled the back roads to visit a doctor in Topton,Pennsylvania I found out that only back roads lead to this location or at least that was what the GPS was telling me. This location will be full of color in two weeks and I wish my trip would have been delayed for that reason. I love the movement of water so when my van drove by this location below I knew I had to turn around and take a couple of shots. I spent a short time maybe around 10 minutes because of my tight schedule and I left with wet shoes and some pretty neat shots.

Amazing Photo Of F22 Raptor

I would like to say congrats to a friend and co-worker Tai for an amazing shot of a F22 Raptor at the NAS Air show. I went on Saturday and the conditions were less then perfect with low clouds and grey skies. Tai went out on Sunday and got a great shot of the F 22 Raptor at high speed. Tai your photography has improved a 100% and I hope some of the info I have gave you has helped. Here is the fast fly by of the plane..

Some Down Time

I had some down time this week and took Madison out along with the camera of course. It seems like I don’t get to spend to much time with her due to my busy work flow. Today I took a look at her and could not believe how big and how fast she is growing up. I wish I could stop her at this age. The next couple of weekends should be busy with some new photos from weddings and family portraits. I have posted two of the photos I took of her which I liked.

Virginia Beach Surfers And Large Waves

What better way to spend the afternoon on a sunny day but to take the camera out to the oceanfront and take a couple snapshots of surfers taking advantage of some large swells coming in from the tropical activity of recent. I was in luck because of a past cancelation on an event from the ECSC which was taking place at the time. Here are a few dudes kicking it up on some sweet waves.

We are in a great time span for surfing photography and with the latest in tropical waves and hurricanes this is a great time for those wow shots I really enjoy. I wants to offer a two hour session to the first surfer who wants to get some crazy shots. All you have to do is contact me so we can set up a time and date as well as a location. Tropical storm Hanna is rolling in as well as Hurricane Ike which is giving double wave action up the East coast. I would like someone who can stay on the board and has some experience so the outcome is good on the camera as well. I look forward to hearing from you surfers and bodyboarders very soon. Hang Tight…
